I discovered Cassie during one of my Periscope sessions. Someone mentioned that I needed to check her and her 100% genuine and detailed reviews out. I watched a few of her videos and was really intrigued by her format. She included a vlog in the middle of every single one of her product reviews. She also uploaded a ton, it was obvious this woman was serious about her YouTube channel! I couldn’t get over that vlog intermission in her videos, it was a really smart and creative way to show insight into her world while still pertaining to her “niche” of detailed product reviews for oily skin. It wasn’t until my interview with her that I realized why she was doing that, and it completely made sense. She wanted people to see exactly what she was doing throughout the day so they understood what the makeup she had on her face was encountering whether it be heat, wind, humidity, etc. Brilliant.
We talked about that and more in our interview together. which you can listen to on iTunes or clicking on the pink bar above. Fortunately, I was introduced to Cassie by Jen, whom I had interviewed a few months prior. They are friendly and Jen said, you HAVE to interview Cassie! The rest is history. 🙂 I hope you enjoy the interview! Comment below if you learned anything new from Cassie and her approach to doing YouTube!
Cassie’s Five Tips
Cassie discussed five distinct tips for fast YouTube growth during our chat. Interestingly enough, Cassie has been a YouTuber for quite some time, but it wasn’t until she started implemented these tips that she really saw her channel take off. Below is a brief summary of the five points, make sure you listen to the entire interview for details and more incredible tips!
1.) Be consistent and upload often. Cassie switched to an upload schedule of 4-5 times a week. At that point, she said she saw a big jump in her channel subs and views.
2.) Be genuine and honest. The cornerstone of Cassie’s videos is that she is brutally honest about the products. Her viewers can trust her opinion and the integrity of her reviews is incredibly important to her and her audience.
3.) Keep people watching the entire video.
The more people watch your video, the higher google ranks in search. Watch time is incredibly important in how your video and overall channel is ranked. Make sure you keep your audience engaged and give them a reason to stay until the end.
4.) Create videos of trending topics. Cassie has chosen to review brand new foundations along with trending products, which has helped her get discovered through YouTube search.
4.) Add Variety Within Your Videos. Here is an excerpt from the interview I thought was interesting and is related to this point. I think it feels kind of an unconscious decision. And I have been noticing people actually do watch my videos all the way through. I think that it is because it’s not all one note. Some people will do a haul or they will do favorites videos and they won’t show the clothes on or they won’t show the product close up and it’s really flat and it’s easy to get bored, so people will click out and that is understandable. I think with my videos, that’s why I try to do a lot of cutaways and showing things close up because it keeps people visually interested. It’s nice to have it not just like one note throughout the whole thing. You’re watching me read about the product, you’re watching me put on the product then you’re watching my vlog then you’re watching a check in, it’s different every few minutes and that helps.
Here are some of my favorite quotes from the interview: Five Easy Tips for Fast YouTube Growth
Knowing that I can be that person where, if someone is feeling down or if they’re not feeling great, they can watch a video of mine and be able to smile for 10 minutes, it warms my heart in a way that I cannot even describe.
I’m glad that I’ve always been authentically me, I’m glad that I haven’t felt the need to change.
Sometimes when I look up a review or a product and I am watching a video of someone sitting in a room, their 18 diva lights going on and talking about a foundation that is perfect on their already perfect skin, I’m like that doesn’t help me. People are getting sick of those unobtainable ideals.
