Behind the scenes: Getting Noticed By Brands

I was super excited to get Mindy for the show. We met at a beauty event and I was taken by her enthusiasm and energy and sheer support of the influencer. We connected immediately and knew in some way we wanted to work together. When asked if she wnted to come on the show, she enthusiastically said yes, but on one condition, we kept her anonymous. I was ok with that, because I wanted her to be as open and honest as possible when it came to this crucial subject. Mindy definitely delivered. She answered questions I personally had been wondering about as well as questions I get emailed and tweeted repeatedly. How do you work with an influencer? How do I get brands to find me? How do I get noticed by brands? Her answers didn’t really surprise me. Communication is key, being professional is important and allows you to stand out amongst the crowd. The quote “Its very important to remember there is someone on the other side who is sending you these products and advocating for your support.” in my opinion was SPOT ON. If you are fortunate enough to be sought out by a brand, treat that relationship like gold. How do you do that? Just as Mindy suggested, communicating, sending a thank you, calling, keeping them updated on what you are working on.

She is open to working with smaller influencers, which was interesting to me, given how popular and large the brand she works with is. BUT, as she mentioned, they are pretty selective. They are looking for someone who is up and coming, shows a genioine interst in the brand (she mentioned that a bunch of times which makes me believe its super important) and is doing something different and unique. Those are great things to think about if you are a smaller influencer but want to get noticed by the big guys.

Some great quotes:

Its very important to remember there is someone on the other side who is sending you these products and advocating for your support.

The power of social media and how fast things move these days completely changes the ball game.

We are pretty selective but at the same time its not always about your following but the content you create too. If you have a few thousand followers but I can see that your content is curated, executed really well and on top of that I can see that you are an avid supporter of the brand, you are going to get my attention.

Communication is key especially in this digital age.

In a land full of people doing a lot of the same things, it says something about someone who takes a leap ahead of the pack and breaks the mold.

Questions to ask yourself this week:

  • Am I focusing my efforts on trying to attract a few select brands and showing them my genuine interest?
  • What is my superpower (what makes me special and unique) and is there a video/post that hasn’t been done before that I can do. OR is there something out there I can put a (really) unique spin on to get noticed?

Lets chat it out. . What did you think about the interview? Any tips you picked up from Mindy or things you’ve done to be noticed by brands that have worked?

You’re welcome! Im really glad you enjoyed it and got something out of it Trina! 🙂

  • Hi ! so i was looking through the creators of Beautyfreshmedia.com and i found you on there!! I’ve just being trying to do my reasearch on doing youtube and an instagrammer . I find both situations so much fun and i think i can make something with my life out of it. Being a daughter who’s parents are illegal in the US makes me fall in the same category. For us young adults with that status don’t have many eligible government help as in FAFSa and stuff like that for college . Although my father does work because of his status his most paying job is 10.50 an hour and being the oldest in a family of 4 younger sisters i work very hard to help my parents as much as its needed to provide for them and my sisters ,which is why at age 24 i still live in my parents house. Just wanted to thank you too much for putting that podcast out I’ve learned so much and trust me i took out a notebook and took notes !!!! How amazing thank you so much you answered a lot of my questions that i couldn’t really figure out. Ive already started youtube last year, don’t have a lot of content yet but atleast i lost my fear of being In front of the camera! lol .. Ive had instagram for a wile now. Since youtube really would take most of my time i decided to hold off on youtube and add a lot more content on Instagram. Since i was little i was taught by mom so much about Business, and being my own boss. That has been stood to my head and for the last 4 years I’ve been trying to figure what i like to do in the future with my life. Ofcource a lot has gone through my head through the years. Opening my own restaurant, or coffee shop. Ive worked at a restaurant for 6 years now and trust me i don’t ever want to own a food place lol . Every time i go to work i always wore makeup and i get a lot of compliments about my makeup. So i figured lets start a makeup business, so now i do makeup for a living and work at the restaurant. But ofcource i want to take this makeup knowledge of mine to a different level. Where i live which is WISCONSIN here encouragement and love is very poor you really don’t see it very often . Now my dream is to work with a protege makeup brand. Idk Loreal, Maybelline, just a fun caring brand that care about there people and above all there work ;). Thank you so much once again for this podcast i know One Day my dream will come true never Quitting …such a Blessing 😉
